The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller That Blends Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay
The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.
"It's a unique experience where a young woman containing several human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.
Entering a Fractured Mind
In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Within her reside four separate personas, all possessing unique anxieties and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.
Based on showcased gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a eerie hospital, while additional clips depict the protagonist exploring a abandoned church.
An Environment of Personal Horror
"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can activate something primal within us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are unique to each person."
The core mechanic revolves around controlling the persona that emerges at a particular time. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's fears become amplified and assault the girl in succession. As the persona changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.
Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice
At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the lobby have enormous blooms where their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring element, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.
Yet, UN:Me presents a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four personas claims that the physical form belongs to them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."
After a player have deduced a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can lie or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.
"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."
UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
