The East African nation Welcomes Valuable Items Following a Long Residence in German Hands
Exactly Twelve cultural objects were officially returned to Ethiopia following staying by a household from Germany for over 100 years.
These artefacts, originally acquired in the 1920s by Germany's then-envoy to Ethiopia Franz Weiss and his wife his partner, were transferred on Wednesday to the Ethiopian Studies Institute at the capital's university.
This assortment included headpieces, protective shields and paintings, all regarded as historically valuable in Ethiopia.
"These items continue to serve as a emblem of the enduring and amicable connection between Germany and the Ethiopian people," said Ferdinand von Weyhe, Germany's ambassador to the East African country.
Professor a professor, whose parent was delivered during the household's diplomatic posting in Ethiopia, handed over the items at a event attended by Tourism Minister Selamawit Kassa.
He said that the household's goal to return the items was to "display their splendor with the audience and safeguard the culture and history connected to my parent's birth."
These objects were either considered presents or purchases, according to the relatives.
"We want to express gratitude to Professor Weiss's household for practically demonstrating their deep appreciation for the nation by meticulously maintaining these artifacts and crucially ensuring their return to their proper homeland," stated the tourism minister.
She noted that the items would shortly be available to the public for study and scholarly work, describing the action a significant step in preserving Ethiopia's cultural heritage.
"Initiatives are ongoing to repatriate historical items that are located in the possession of individuals and entities around the planet," the minister stated.
